Posted 21 years ago #What's going on everybody??! First up mad love to my main man YoYoPo. The site is killing it definitely! The redesign is not only looking great but the message board is a dope idea and I plan to definitely contribute as much as possible to this community.
Now a little update on the P. I've been stupid busy the last two weeks mixing the Giant Panda album which is certified dope to death and will be our first release on Tres records. For those that don't know, Tres is me and two other dudes trying to put out dope music you guys can all count on. I'm real excited about that release. Anyways, now that that's done, I'm back to working on the album, which is basically making beats on the daily and hooking up with Dub here and there to lay down tracks. It's definitely coming along but there is still a long way to go and I wouldn't feel right putting out an album we didn't totally believe in; thank you all for being patient and continuing to do so. I promise it will be worth the wait. Some highlights I think already will be "8 x tables" and "Gangster Block". I had a 1 year setback basically building a new studio from the ground up. It's finally done and functional but that has been an ordeal in itself. The new album will be a hundred percent analogue recorded and mixed and should knock the woofers right out your speakers.
Anyways, so I'll update you guys on the Stepfather progress as we go. Feel free to ask any questions and make suggestions as well. I really appreciate all of you out there who support this, and will be getting some pictures of the studio construction etc. up to you soon.
Thanks again yall. It means alot.

Posted 21 years ago #I first would like to thank you for making the best music I have ever heard. I first discovered the P in 2002 and have been a loyal fan ever since. I have all your albums including the unrelasesd American Men Volume 1 that i bought off the internet. I would also like to tell you that PUTS is making an underground movement at my High School. I live in Boise Idaho and people started discovering the PUTS around 2001. Ever since then it has been slowly gaining ground, as more and more people are introduced to your music. I am proud to say i am doing my part and have writen an article about the P in our school newspaper that i will post later. I know you and Double K are from the West Coast and do most of your tours around there, but i hope u at least think about comming to Boise sometime. If not I might just have to fly out to one of your venues. Thats all I have to say except keep making those fat beats and we are anxiously anticipating Stepfathers release in Boise Idaho. Finnally i want to thank YoYoPo for creating such a great site.

Posted 21 years ago #Ive showed my appreciation to YoYoPo about the contributing site to you guys, this really SHOULD BE the official web-home for the P,
anyway.. there is finally a dedicated forumn for PUTS, and this really kicks ass... ive been awaiting this oppertunity for ever.
been a fan of the P since i got The Next Step in 99', i was also in high school (los angeles) when i first heard of you guys, except everyone was listening to maria carey, sisqo, puff daddy, the list just goes on....me and a few other friends were the only cats listening to dope sh!t, and since then i have also "Questin in the form...", OST, ....Or stay tuned. and with my new found blessing, i purchased some tables and will be looking fort some puts on vinyl very soon *drools*
You guys give the meaning of the real hip hop to me, and its just the dopest and purest music out there!
much love,
Stowik! -
Posted 21 years ago #Yo Thes,
is there going to be any solo LP from Thes? And new PUTS will be on Tres or OM records?
Is there going to be any east-europe tour or somethin? -
Posted 21 years ago #sh!t thes u made yoyopo's day u shoulda seen how hyped he was....
anyway yo from the uk -
Posted 21 years ago #yeh yeh for real he was on a straight OD trip!
i give mad props to the man Po
it's mans like him that make the world a better [more PUTS aware] place.

Posted 21 years ago #HA! My man Po. His pops was mad cool too. It's a blessing to have a site like this because, honestly, we tried to get our own off the ground a few times but we always ended up pretty much pulling the plug when we realized that the dude making the site wasn't really a fan and didn't really get us. Eventually I do want to get up some super personal P site that me and K put together but until we can figure out how to get more hours in the day, I think we'll focus on making tracks and leave it in the capable hands of the Po. And I apologize for there being virtually no information on the web about us, but you know it takes effort and everytime I would sit down to do it, I'd get up and go digging for records or something.
I am definitely excited to see this forum grow and become a community, that would make my life! I'm definitely going to get a bunch of heads over here to contribute as well.
Q&A:
Yo Thes,
is there going to be any solo LP from Thes? And new PUTS will be on Tres or OM records?
Is there going to be any east-europe tour or somethin?
The new PUTS album will be on Om Records. It is the 5th and final album of our existing contract for the label. All other stuff for me will be on Tres, as I am the active A&R for that label so it is easier for me to do stuff that way. Solo LP? Kind of. Aside from the new P album, I have an instrumental album that will be coming out on Tres in the Fall of this year. I will talk more about it later, it's a concept joint and we are all real excited about it.
Thanks for the support Stowik, I think you'll also start enjoying the world of unreleased P b-sides on all those 12"s. (Every 12" has at least one unreleased track, I think)
Shallat - Good looking on leading the Boise movement. Funny man. We always (and I mean always) spend the night in Boise when we tour the west coast. We do two shows in Boulder and Ft. Collins, then usually the next show is in Portland or Seattle. Sooo, that means mash as hard as we can from Cheyenne and we usually end up pulling into Boise at like 11:00pm and sleeping in this crappy motel 6 next to a Denny's right off of the freeway near the airport. Then we wake up the next morning and make it to the northwest. Hopefully next time instead of hanging out alone at the motel we can hang with yall and have a house party or a show or something. So to answer the question, yes we've been there mad times but we never left the motel or have even seen anything other than the freeway.
Aight yall. I'm going to go get a bowl of cereal and then drive out to pick up Mikey T (Dub K) We found a box of disks of beats he made a few years ago and we are going to go through them and see if there is anything we can rock on there.
You all stay up and I'll be back soon! -
Posted 21 years ago #Heres that article ive been talking about. I hope u all like it.
People under the Stairs are Fantastic
Music nowadays is trash. Or a least the Hip-Hop genre is. Producers and record promoters keep jumping on the remix and pimp rap bandwagon and the results are unoriginal. If you have grown tired of this, like I have, then maybe you should check out People under the Stairs.
People under the Stairs (PUTS for short) are a two person rap group from Los Angeles with some unique talent and original ideas. They consist of Thes One and Double K who have put out three LPs since 1998: The Next Step, Question in the Form of an Answer, and O.S.T.
The best way to describe PUTS music style is an artful blend of both existential and introspective lyrics with tranquil carefree beats. Their music sounds like a jazzy, funky, slightly retro, slightly new age version of hip-hop in its truest form. PUTS has been compared to Jurssic 5, Ugly Duckling, Dialted Peoples, and The Beatnuts, but the only true way to describe their style is absolutely unique. Thes One and Double K manage to bring you into their mind and show and tell you about their problems, adventures, and good times.
Each of their three LPs has their own unique style and flavor. Listening to each one chronologically, their development is easy to see.
Their first LP The Next Step, put out in 1998, really explores and pushes the musically boundaries of Hip-Hop. This album is rougher around the edges than their following two, but this only enhances the experience rather than hindering it. Their signature song of the album, San Francisco Nights (arguably one of their best songs ever), takes you through their late night journeys through the bay city, and couples deep lyrics with mind pleasing beats. Other songs like Death of a Salesman, and Ten Tough Guys show the P flexing their musical muscles with their debut.
Question in the Form of an Answer, the follow up album released in 2000, delves even deeper into minds of the two mad scientists. I personally recommend their song Stay Home that starts out slow and builds up to an intense musical pinnacle. With ingenious beats from songs such as Earth Travelers and Youth explosion, fat mixes such as 43 Labels I Like, and unconventional skits such as King Kuff, Question parades the talent and personalities of the two MCs.
Their last LP O.S.T., released in 2002, shows just how far PUTS has evolved. O.S.T. has a more mature well rounded sound and is their most complete CD yet. Some tracks such as Suit for Beaver Part I are a prelude to the following track, Suit for Beaver Part II, and give the impression of the immense amount of work that went into creating this album. Some of my favorite tracks are The Tales of Kidd D., which is the perfect song to blast out your car on a lazy summer afternoon, and Montego Slay, the ultimate chill song that everyone knows the words too. The crown jewel of this album though is definitely Acid Raindrops. With a simple beat, profound lyrics, and (get this) a tribute to Mr. Rogers at the beginning, Acid Rain drops rivals San Francisco Knights as the P?s best song.
All in all People under the Stairs have put out the most genuine, purest form of Hip-Hop I have ever heard. I strongly recommend any one of their albums. Also make sure to look for Stepfather, their fourth LP, to drop in 2005.
I hope everyone who reads this does their own part in spreading the word about the P. -
Posted 21 years ago #Thes your response made my day. I showed all my bros and they all agreed if u fellas ever came to boise for a show we would throw the fattest party with yall. Thanks for taking time out your day to talk to a dedicated fan.

Posted 21 years ago #Hey Thes,
It's great to see you on the forum, Yopopo's done a wicked job, mad props..
I came to see you for the first time at Jazz Cafe (last year) I was the one in the visor beenie, moshing it up at the front, f***ing amazing dude.. Hope to see you again soon in the UK, maybe you could come up to Nottingham/Manchester next time... you got some big fans up here.
The next question is kind of for you and Yopopo, don't want to tread on any toes etc..
Just a quick one, I didn't realise you were selling merch at the Jazz Cafe gig, so I didn't get one, is there anyway you could offer some stuff through this site in the near future?
Maybe not just shirts and stuff, but perhaps unreleased / mixtape (puts crockery set
), I don't know, thinking out loud.. Just want to get my hands on some more P-stuff.. Maybe you could put the Panda/Bloquera through here, it's not always simple getting stuff from US in UK..
cool to see you here,
take it easy dude.. -
Posted 21 years ago #mmfreego do u remember two dudes who couldnt get into that gig...
i think we tried to sell u a ticket
-btw brighton gig was ill thx again for that 1 the P, and yeah mad props to yoyoyopopos pops

Posted 21 years ago #Much love to Thes K and Double One. Its about time there was a forum where I could complain about not getting a new PUTS album every 6 months and not rolling up to NYC for one of those deep fried, extra crispy live shows. SOB's was dope two years ago. Come back. This music is so good you got me running around like some dope fiend lookin for my next fix.
Question: someone mentioned they picked up and unrealesed version of AMERICAN MEN on the internet. Any info on where I could do the same would be GREATLY appreciated. -
Posted 21 years ago #All I can really say is damn... I worked on my week off to get this new site ting up and almost straight away it's all buzzing! Man, it's like a headrush but I'm loving it, glad you all like the site (feel free to make suggestions n sh!t though, it's not like i'll get offended
) - - I'm trying to put all these thoughts i got right now down so sorry if it's hard to read or just plain don't make sense
Anyway its great to see you up on here Thes, say hi to KK for me!
Hopefully as the days pass more and more fans can find their way here which leads me to something mmfreegoo was saying about the official site and how it hasn't been updated. He suggested something i was thinking that maybe it could be arranged for a link to this site to be put up on the om records official site just so more fans find out about it. The official one is easy to find out about and is on like all your records so probably every P fan knows about it...
It's true what you say Thes about not much info being around about The P, hell I know that, so it's a tragedy if fans don't find out about this place (although you say you got troubles with that web site but i guess we'll see)
Thes you also said about wanting a personal PUTS site - just hook me up with any info you want up on here or anything at all and we can do it, just suggest sh!t man and we can try to work it!
to Stoic - you should definitely try to pick up the PUTS 12"s, they all got great b-sides... Out Da Club and Invisible Blunt Roller are my favs (must hears yo
) - I've got a load of my Tres records stuff from http://www.scenariorecords.com (tho i go to the shop in london which i recommend) and if people e-mail them asking for more Tres stuff then they'll get it in
Shallat thanks for that article, it's really well written and i think you got it spot-on, i'll be putting it up on the site sometime soon - i'll put it up in the sharing area and we can arrange this...
Now, about merchendise (thanks for my stuff Thes, the shirts and CD get regular use
) - i've got at least 3 e-mails over a couple months from people asking for PUTS shirts and I had to tell em i didn't really know - they used to be available from Om Records but that shop has kinda disintegrated - - Om Records needs to be woken up on this PUTS internet front, they're looking sloppy these days
But if Thes and Dub K are up for it then I'm sure something can be arranged eventually, even if it's just us sending each other stuff thru this message board or a proper shop type thing...
much love to all of you for the invaluble support on this, it's def appreciated
keep it busy up on here
PS - couple other suggestions for you Thes - is any stuff from Double K's band gonna come out, especially now you got Tres Records going, man everyone loves funk. Also just plain thanks for coming up with Tres Records in the first place, the stuff you're putting out is so fresh (new GP album and your instrumental LP sounds sick!)
Also I actually found some proper nice vinyls hidden away in my dad's flat recently including a set of 3 picture disc 7"s of japanese nursery rhymes from the 60s, i haven't listened to it yet but the artwork was fresh. I was loving them mainly because I didn't expect to find them - I mihgt be able to take some pics of them to show you guys
man i probably had something else to say but i forgotten it, it'll be said later no doubt, peace -
Posted 21 years ago #JBug187 nice to see you on here! Welcome! Anyway, I've said this to people before but I reckon you can get AMV1 from http://www.roughtrade.com (famous london shop) or try http://www.budgetbeats.com/ which is a record shop in Liverpool (though you definitely need to e-mail them about it, i don't think their site works, that's where i got my copy) or you can always check eBay every now and then...
peace, yoyopo -
Posted 21 years ago #yoyopo you should mos def try to get your link on the official puts site, it will help a bunch.
puts needs to sell gear because it will not only help fund the ever deserving puts, but also give the fans the needed puts logo to rock. ...and juicy vinyl.!!
but with that addition of a PUTS shop, there has to be somone to do all the packing and shipping and all.... any volunteers
Thes should defanitly keep visiting regularly, puts are the kids about the people! and people need the info
there may be a time where there are a hundred or so people registered here, and they are dependant on fresh news from the men themselves. Thes and Dub.
everything else seems top notch so far, more will eventually register, and this place be gettin crazy in no time,
as if this much isnt already enough
Thes you rule brother-man!
